We chose to call our company Tuppence LLC because of a song that was featured in the 1964 Walt Disney film Mary Poppins. Written by Richard M. Sherman & Robert B. Sherman it speaks of an old beggar woman who sits on the steps of Saint Paul's Cathedral in London, selling bags of breadcrumbs to passers-by for tuppence a bag, so that the passers-by can feed the many pigeons who surround the old woman.

Robert Sherman was said to have commented: "Songs have been written about a myriad of subjects. 'Feed the Birds' is the first song written about the merits of giving charity."

He also recalls: "On Fridays, after work, [Walt Disney would] often invite us into his office and we'd talk about things that were going on at the Studio. After a while, he'd wander to the north window, look out into the distance and just say, 'Play it.' And Dick would wander over to the piano and play 'Feed the Birds' for him. One time just as Dick was almost finished, under his breath, I heard Walt say, 'Yep. That's what it's all about.'"

The idea being that 'Tuppence' means to be frugal, to pay attention, to care, to take action and by doing so you will prosper. When you do this you will find a peace of mind that you never knew existed, a way of life that is too good to keep to yourself and too exciting to keep quiet about. Once that happens you may find yourself wanting to share what you've learned with others such that they can better their lives as well. Then the cycle repeats.

Thus, Tuppence Works! It works because it's the right thing to do, the way things should be done and is worth sharing. We invite you to learn more, ask more, then pass it on. In other words, once you find that you're in a position to give of yourself to help others, you should. There are merits in giving charity, and often times the best that you can give is of yourself in helping others. Like Walt Disney himself said "Yep. That's what it's all about."
